Cinema is the latest and most important of all arts; combining all previous arts such as painting, theater, literature and photography. For this unique feature, the art of cinema fascinated the world and topped the lists of daily practices and hobbies in almost all countries. This cinematic scene explains the magnitude of its production in Hollywood, Bollywood, Korea, China and other countries. Today, after a 70-year absence, cinema is back to the art scene in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The history of cinema in the Kingdom; the shock! In the Kingdom, cinema began in 1948 showing the first Saudi film entitled “flies,” starring the late Saudi actor Hassan Al-Ghanim. Following this pioneering film, the production of films exceeded 500 Saudi films, including short, documentaries, animation, and a few in the category of long films. Who would have imagined this? The first cinema showroom in the kingdom was opened in the early 1930s at the headquarters of Saudi Aramco, then the California Arab Oil Company. In the 1970s, cinemas expanded to more than 50 showrooms in major cities; Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Abha. Today, it is back to announce the launch of a new era in which the film industry will constitute an important turning point that will open wide horizons to move the various related sectors to reflect on the economic, cultural, functional, societal and entertainment aspects of the Kingdom.
