ولم تكن صالات السينما في المملكة مغلقة كما ها المنازل ّ هو الحال اليوم، بل مساحات مفتوحة تحف مع بعض الحواجز البسيطة يفترش المرتادون أرضها، وقد يتفنن بعضهم بجلب عدة كراسي خشبية من طراز خاص يتلاءم مع متطلبات ثلاث ساعات متتالية تمتد من الساعة السابعة إلى العاشرة مساء كل يوم محاطة ببعض الديكورات البسيطة، لتتطور بعدها عمليات العرض بشكل احترافي في فندق العطاس الواقع في شمال أبحر. ومن أشهر الأسماء المعروفة حينذاك بتقديم العروض السينمائية، إضافة لدار جمجوم: دار محمد أبو صفية في حي الهنداوية،
بالمنطقة الشرقية واستمروا على ذلك حتى فترة بداية السبعينيات الميلادية.
وكانت أول دار عرض للسينما في المملكة قد افتتحت مطلع الثلاثينيات من القرن الماضي في مقر شركة أرامكو السعودية، التي كانت اسمها آنذاك شركة كاليفورنيا العربية للزيت القياسي. وفي سبعينيات القرن الماضي، انتشرت دور 50 العرض السينمائي، ووصل عددها لأكثر من صالة عرض في كل من المدن الرئيسية الرياض، وجدة، والدمام، وأبها. لتعود اليوم معلنة انطلاق حقبة جديدة ستشكل صناعة السينما فيها واسعة وتحرك ً نقطة تحول هامة ستفتح آفاقا معها مختلف القطاعات ذات العلاقة لتنعكس على الجوانب الاقتصادية والثقافية والوظيفية والمجتمعية والترفيهية في المملكة. ملامح جديدة لحركة 2030 واليوم، رسمت رؤية مع ً الفن في المملكة العربية السعودية تزامنا الانفتاح على مختلف الثقافات، وبدأت السينما طريقها نحو المستقبل، حيث جاءت موافقة ّ تشق مجلس إدارة الهيئة العامة للإعلام المرئي والمسموع على إصدار تراخيص للراغبين في فتح دور العرض السينمائي بالسعودية لتعيد للأذهان مرحلة الثلاثينيات الميلادية، والتي شهدت بداية دخول صالات السينما، فكانت البدايات مع قدوم مجموعات من الخبراء الغربيين للعمل في شركة ا إلى ً كاليفورنيا العربية للزيت التي تحول اسمها لاحق “أرامكو” فأدخلوا دور السينما إلى المملكة وذلك في مجمعاتهم السكنية المغلقة في مدينة الظهران

ويؤكد الناقد والمؤرخ السينمائي الفرنسي “جورج سادول” في كتابه الشهير (تاريخ السينما في العالم) وجود السينما في المملكة منذ القدم حيث قال: افتتحت الصالات السينمائية السعودية خلال السبعينات الميلادية عبر الأندية الرياضية على وجه التحديد للرجال فقط، وفي بعض السفارات الأجنبية ا في جدة والطائف ولكن ً والبيوتات الشهيرة خصوص بشكل عشوائي تفتقد فيه التنظيم والتهيئة اللازمة للمشاهدة . كما احتضنت مدينة جدة على امتداد ثلاثة عقود ا تجربة السينما، عبر عشرة مواقع قدمت ً تقريب العروض السينمائية معتمدة على سلسلة من الأفلام العربية والأجنبية التي استحوذت على اهتمام الشارع العام حينذاك حيث تحتفظ ذاكرة عروس البحر الأحمر باسم “فؤاد جمجوم” الذي امتلك أشهر محل خاص لتأجير أجهزة السينما في حي البغدادية سنة ، وعمد إلى توريدها إلى باقي المحال المشتغلة 1960 ا. ً ببيع وتأجير الأجهزة، وإلى الأفراد أيض
